This computer is largely compatible with the Mega-68000 Computer System, however it is an entirely new single board design based on the more powerful Motorola 68030 processor.

The 68030 was released in 1987 and was retrofitted to many 68000 based Commodore Amiga and Atari ST home computers to increase performance. Apple also rolled out new faster performing Macintosh computers based on this enhanced 68030 processor.

The single board design and the use of a large CPLD for glue logic significantly reduces the component count and overall system complexity and as a result this system is easier to construct than the earlier Mega-68000 Computer System.
